FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COLUMBUS, OH, Sept. 20, 2014 — The Guinness Book of World Records confirmed that GSWS Columbus successfully achieved a new Guinness World Record title for “The Largest Drag Queen Stage Show” during their attempt on July 26, 2014 which took place at their fundraiser, the 5th Annual Night of 100 Drag Queens – Columbus, to benefit the 2015 Gay Softball World Series (GSWS).
Fifty-five (55) individuals – both male and female – took to the stage in drag to perform It’s Raining Men, made popular by The Weather Girls. Mark Bryan, professional choreographer, prepared the piece, which lasted 5 minutes and 27 seconds, surpassing the 5 minutes requirement.
“The evening was magical. We raised money for a great cause and saw people from different parts of our community come together and collaborate on a common project. It was the perfect example of the 2015 GSWS theme – ALL IN,” said GSWS Columbus Director of Marketing, PR and Communications Keith Speers. “Setting the Guinness World Record shows what we can accomplish when we work together and the amount of support there is within the Columbus community.”
Event hostesses, Nina and Virginia West, were instrumental in gathering participants and organizing the rehearsals and the actual attempt, which took place at Axis Nightclub. “Nina and Virginia are true professionals. We couldn’t have done this without them,” said Micheal Carroll, Project Manager for GSWS Columbus.
